One Body Worker Catholic House in Baltimore, MD

We are a family of five living in West Baltimore across race and class lines. We are Catholic and we work, Suzanne as a nurse practitioner, Jeff as a lawyer, Leo, Jude, and Francesca as students.

We are part of a larger intentional community, centered on our block, whose members’ beliefs are many and varied, but everyone agrees that at the end of the day we are all one.

Consider this website as an invitation to participate in our small experiment with community.

What We Believe

For our part, we believe the following:

  • Jesus was fully human and fully divine
  • Jesus inaugurated the Reign of God in a special way, and there is no going back
  • Jesus was executed by the empire of his day because it opposed the Reign of God
  • Jesus rose again on the third day
  • Jesus will come again, the Reign of God will be complete in heaven and on earth, and there will be no more empires, including the American Empire
  • The Reign of God is non-violent, and as followers of Jesus, we must strive to interiorize and institutionalize non-violence
  • The American dream is a trap
  • Community is magical even when it is hard
  • God is leading humanity and the entire cosmos towards a future of deeper unity, consciousness, and divine fulfillment. Ilia Delio on the Inauguration
  • The Eucharist is indispensable, and the arguments against ordaining women are patriarchal tools of oppression. Women’s Ordination Conference
  • Dorothy Day and Peter Maurin are trustworthy guides for us (the attached issue of The Catholic Worker illustrates why), but we must find our own way in the Holy Spirit
